Tanner & Co, 50, Bermondsey St, London SE1 3UD
Just south of the river, Bermondsey’s Tanner & Co serve up an uncomplicated brunch menu of benedicts and burgers, but the real appeal lies in the extensive list of ‘weapons’ to choose from; for the ultimate hair of the dog, the Bloody Mary will blow away the cobwebs or for a justifiably healthy option, the Mimosa is a sharp companion to the bacon & smoked cheese burger with beetroot chutney and chips. The interiors are nostalgically inspired by a school gymnasium; with character in abundance and reservations being welcomed with a table flush with croissants and coffee, it’s an unforgettable experience and remarkably quick service for the man on the move.

Mommi Raw Bar and Grill, 44-48 Clapham High St, London SW4 7UR
An unusual, but not improbable, blend of Peruvian-Japanese cuisine, Mommi offers an exotic menu nestled between Clapham’s pubs and coffee bars. Move aside full English, here resides ‘The Full Andean” complete with yuzu soy mushrooms and spicy aji Amarillo beans. The Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche and Salmon Chirashi Sushi compete with more familiar classics such as diced avocado on toast and homemade granola; not forgetting the delectable bottomless house champagne available to wash it all down and celebrate the discovery of a new favourite brunch spot that offers something special for everyone, created by an international team of ‘nikkei’ experts, headed up by executive chef Paul Sowden.

For home comforts in the capital and the best of British, South Place Hotel has it covered with their ‘Bellini Brunch’. Unashamedly boutique and named as one of the Big Six art hotels, South Place offers a visual and culinary experience for the senses. The menu inspires memories of grandmotherly portions and domestic bliss; you can even get soldiers with your eggs and hot chocolate fudge with your ice cream, after a hearty helping of London pale ale battered haddock and chips.

New Street Grill, 16 New St, London EC2M 4TR
New Street Grill, located in an 18th century warehouse historically used by the East India Company off Liverpool Street, has become renowned for its excellent service and ‘rough-luxe’ décor (think exposed brickwork, authentic stone arches and private leather booths). Furthermore, internationally celebrated chef Matthew Foxon’s menu exudes maturity and creativity and comes with lavish servings of prosecco at your request. Samphire broth, poached duck egg and sautéed morel mushrooms are au courant interpretations of conventional brunch elements to soak up the bubbles while perusing the Sunday papers or challenging your table to a board game.

Cafe Cortadito, 210 E 3rd St, New York, NY 10009
Waitstaff in guayaberas, paladar ambience and Buena Vista Social Club streaming through the soundsystem; a taste of old world Cuba is palpable in more than just the palette in the candlelit East Village eatery. The name cortadito may refer to a short black coffee, but the brunch menu is anything but; long, colourful and mouth-watering, it offers components such as sweet plantain, picadillo, creole sauce and black bean purée accompanied by a choice of champagne, tropical mimosas, red or white sangria, mojitos, margaritas, Bloody Marys or house cerveza.
