A.P.C. MA-1 Bomber Jacket
Despite the MA-1’s history as a US Air Force-issued jacket (or perhaps because of it), it is today a firm fixture within the constantly evolving and perpetually confusing world of fashion. Numerous brands have attempted their own take on this particular type of bomber jacket, but we find the best are often the ones that keep things simple. For their latest offering, A.P.C. has crafted an MA-1 from Italian herringbone cotton as opposed to the traditional nylon, whilst maintaining the zipped arm pocket with built-in pen slots that was a characteristic of the original design.

The Hill-Side Coupe Utility Shirt
Making their case for the perfect utility shirt is The Hill-Side, an NYC-based firm who proudly make their garments in the Big Apple. The relaxed cut of this garment allows it to be worn as an outer layer, but as with many of The Hill-Side’s clothes it’s the details they’ve imbued that separates it. It features two large flap chest pockets (one with a pen slot) with hidden button closures, natural corozo buttons and indigo chambray lined cuffs, pocket flaps and yoke. Furthermore, the fabric it’s made from is a beautiful Japanese indigo sashiko that’s been pre-washed to remove shrinkage, and promises to deliver outstanding fades over time.

Saint Laurent Brushed Mohair Jumper
A chunky knitted jumper is somewhat of a winter necessity. Although you might be overcome by festive cheer in the run up to Christmas, refrain from novelty knitwear and invest in a subtly patterned example such as this from Saint Laurent. It’s been made from a cosy mohair blend that’s been brushed for added texture and features an over-sized check pattern that’ll act as a subtle statement against black jeans and leather boots.

Paraboot Chambord Derbys
As far as winter-proof footwear goes, we’d usually recommend opting for a hard-wearing boot. But, if you prefer the look and feel of a shoe, you should consider French brand Paraboot, who specialise in rubber-soled, Norwegian welted models that are up for tackling all manner of foul weather. As a side note, all of their shoes and boots are handcrafted in their factory at the foot of the Alps, with no less than 150 individual steps required to produce a single pair. This Chambourd model is a classic apron-front derby that’s been bolted on to one of the brand’s signature robust rubber soles, making them the perfect shoes for a Boxing Day walk in the country.

Nomos Orion 38 Grau watch
An exercise in minimalistic perfection, the Nomos Orion 38 Grau is all the watch you will ever need. The German brand has stripped back all the non-essentials for this watch, with only a seconds sub-dial revealing some of the ingenuity behind Nomos’ in-house Alpha movement that beats effortlessly underneath the galvanised, grey rhodium-plated dial. The 38mm case is the ideal size for a modern dress watch, and the Horween shell cordovan leather strap completes the understated, utilitarian feel.
