When it comes to spending money on commodities, we at Rake Towers never fail to perform above and beyond the call of duty. Purchasing wisely is another matter though, and investing in items that will stand the test of time is a skill all in itself. With that in mind, here are ten things we’d happily acquire this week.

Alfa Romeo RZ by Zagato
Chances are you will either love or hate the way this car looks. And let’s face it, this car is all about the way it looks. Styled in collaboration with the legendary coachbuilders that are Zagato, it is extremely rare in convertible form - only 284 were built - and it's surprisingly potent. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre V6 engine producing 210bhp which is enough for a 150mph top speed. This particular example has never been driven in the wet, and comes with extensive documentation and even the original Alfa Romeo pen.

Levi’s Vintage Suede Trucker Jacket
In order to achieve the greatness they’ve become known for, virtually all of Levi’s Vintage garments are perfect recreations of archive pieces found in Levi’s 163 year old back catalogue. This particular jacket is of the Trucker variety - a Levi’s classic - which can be traced back to the 1960s, yet it’s been made from black suede as opposed to denim and with a contrasting brown leather collar, lending an added dose of Western charm.

These are chinos and then there are chinos. These Thom Sweeney examples do away with belt loops, instead opting for side adjusters giving them a more formal feel, yet their slim but comfortable fit ensures they’ll be just as versatile as regular chinos. Made from a study olive cotton-twill, they can be worn virtually year-round and will pair well with a sleek navy blazer and button-down oxford shirt for a contemporary Ivy League-inspired ensemble.

Suit Supply La Spalla Navy Check Suit
Suit Supply have lent a number of hand-finished details to their La Spalla range of suiting including a narrow pleated shoulder and hand-stitched collar. The jackets also feature full canvas construction, meaning they’ll conform to one’s body shape over time. What’s perhaps most impressive though is Suit Supply’s use of beautiful fabrics from mills such as Vitale Barberis Canonico and Lanificio Cerruti, which is especially impressive considering their humble price points. Vice President, Nish de Gruiter told The Rake, “one of the best developments in recent years is that men are becoming more aware of what they wear. Many guys are now better educated and paying more attention to things like where fabrics come from, thread counts and textures, and more functional qualities like whether it works for their climate or profession. Offering a wide variety of high quality Italian fabrics from renowned mills like Ferla and Vitale Barberis Canonico, for example, is becoming more crucial when it comes to providing the best ready-to-wear experience. That’s why we carry a dynamic range of fabrics that includes everything from soft mohair-cashmere and camel-silk blends, to cotton and linen blends, and pure wool in every collection.
